Roof tents from Cardiff

Bryn is Welsh for hill, said "brin". It is where we like to sleep: up high, with the view.

We started with a roof tent we bought for our own Land Rover Defender 110 and used on family trips around Wales: beach car parks, hill farms, the odd lay-by. What sold us was how little it changed the car. Closed, it is 12 cm thick and sits on the Defender's own roof rails on four thin brackets, so there are no roof bars and the car still fits where it used to. Open, our family of four sleeps in it.

We liked it enough to bring in a small first batch for other families. Bryntent is a small family business in Cardiff: we order the tents in batches of five, have the brackets made for each customer's car, and look after everything from here.

Where the tents are made

The tents are made in Shenzhen, China, by an outdoor-equipment maker that builds roof tents and pickup tents. In its own words, it was set up by a group of keen campers who wanted to make camping hardware simpler. We import the tents and look after them in the UK.
